SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT.—The Assumption University men's ice hockey team played to a 2-2 tie at Saint Michael's College, in Northeast 10 Conference action Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS

Records: Greyhounds (4-1-1, 3-0-1 NE10) | Purple Knights (3-1-2, 2-1-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption was the first team to light the lamp, as
Jake DiNapoli scored at 5:27 of the opening period. The Greyhounds would take the 1-0 lead into the second period, but it would be
Jonathan Surrette to double the lead for the Hounds, with a power play goal at 13:15 of the middle stanza. Saint Michael's would cut the lead in half, as Brayden Naumann scored with 2:07 left in the second period.
The game would head late into the third period with Assumption leading 2-1, but the Purple Knights would pull their goalie with 1:46 left in regulation, but Jack Tuite would send the game to overtime with the game-tying score with 14.7 left in the period.
After a scoreless overtime, the game would go to a shootout, where
Ryan Decker and
Andrew Toomey scored, giving Assumption the 2-1 shootout win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Michael Salvatore recorded 37 saves in the tie.
- Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 51-39, while the Purple Knights won 36-of-65 faceoffs.
- Neither team scored while on the man-advantage, as both sides were 0-for-2.
- Saint Michael's still leads the all-time series 45-32-3
- As voted on by the coaches, the Northeast 10 does not award extra points for shootout wins.
