WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University men's ice hockey team opened up Northeast 10 Conference action with a 4-0 win against Post University at the Worcester Ice Center, Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
David Lawler recorded the first goal of the game for Assumption, as
Ben Moalusi and
Thomas McGaffigan won a board battle behind the net and found Lawler at the point, as his wrist shot beat the Post netminder, 7:44 into the opening period. The Greyhounds would double their lead in the final minute of the second period, as
Jamison Alicandro intercepts a pass in the offensive zone and beats the Eagles' netminder to the top glove side.
Assumption would carry their 2-0 lead in the third period, where
Jake DiNapoli extended the hosts' advantage to 3-0. After
Jonathan Surrette's shot went into the corner,
Shane McElhaney found DiNapoli on the doorstep, where he would not miss. Alicandro pushed the hosts' lead to 4-0 with his second of the game, with
Declan Chapman and
Leo Piandes being credited with assists.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Callem Welch recorded 25 saves for his first collegiate shutout.
- Assumption outshot Post 41-25, while the Greyhounds won 36-of-63 faceoffs.
- Neither team scored on the power play.
- Assumption leads the all-time series, 23-5-1.
