MANCHESTER, NH— The Assumption University women's basketball team could not complete the fourth quarter comeback, and fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 68-62, Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After trading the first few baskets of the contest, Assumption went on a quick 10-4 run to go up 12-6 following a
Marina Callahan layup at 2:52 of the opening quarter. Southern New Hampshire responded with an 8-2 run to close the frame, tying the contest at 14-14. In the second quarter, the two teams traded baskets throughout, but
Molly Stokes' layup with under four seconds on the clock, would give the Greyhounds a 30-29 halftime advantage.
The Penmen would slowly pull away in the third quarter as it would grow to as large as nine points (50-41), as Stephanie Davis converted a three-point play with under 16-second remaining in the quarter. After SNHU grew their lead to ten points in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, Assumption would slowly chip away at the deficit and would get within three points (65-62) following a pair of connections from long range from
Marina Callahan and
Molly Stokes, but the Penmen would hit three-of-four free throws in the final minute to pull away for a 68-62 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Marina Callahan led all scorers with 24 points, adding eight rebounds, two steals, and a block.
- Assumption outrebounded Southern New Hampshire 40-38 while outscoring the Penmen 16-2 on second chance points.
- Assumption still leads the all-time series 31-21
