WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University women's ice hockey team started fast and did not look back, as the Greyhounds picked up a 3-1 win against Saint Michael's College, Friday evening at the Worcester Ice Center. 

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 3, Saint Michael's College 1
Records: Greyhounds (8-20-3, 8-15-2 NEWHA), Purple Knights (4-27-0, 4-21-0 NEWHA)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The Greyhounds were hot out of the gate and scored 74 seconds into the action when Alexa Hanrahan buried a wrist shot on a one-on-one chance. She was set up by Caroline Lilly and Rachel Agerter. That trio of Hounds combined for the game's second goal, as Agerter fired a rebound into the net at the ten-minute mark in the opening period. Saint Michael's fired back with a powerplay goal from the perimeter just a minute later to make it 2-1 Assumption. 
 
In the second period, Hanrahan attempted a penalty shot after a Saint Michael skater attempted to cover up the puck in the crease but came up empty. Jadyn Weiser was tested by a flurry of shots in quick succession at multiple points in the period, but she also kept the Purple Knights off the board. 
 
In the final moments of the third period, Saint Mike's was forced to pull its goalie. The Greyhounds, feeling the pressure on defense from the extra Purple Knights attacker, escaped their zone when Jenna Chaplain lofted the puck over the neutral zone. Lauryn Broecker won the race to the puck and made a diving effort to direct the puck into the empty net, sealing the Assumption win 3-1.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Jadyn Weiser recorded 23 saves between the pipes for the Greyhounds. 
• Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 44-24, while also winning 22-of-38 faceoffs. 
• The Purple Knights scored on 1-of-2 powerplays, while the Hounds didn't have an opportunity. 
• Assumption leads the all-time series 6-0-1.
