Slow start sinks Men's Ice Hockey at Frankin Pierce

WINCHENDON, Mass.— The Assumption University men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period but eventually fall to Franklin Pierce University 6-3 in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday evening. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Like Friday evening, Franklin Pierce struck multiple times in the opening frame, with the Ravens finding the back of the net three times and outshot Assumption 12-10. 
 
The Greyhounds flipped the script in the first minute of the second period, as Ryan Decker and Ronny Paragallo each scored 35 seconds into the frame, cutting the deficit to one goal (3-2). Just after the six-minute mark, the Ravens regained a two-goal advantage, but Decker would strike again just over the halfway mark of the contest as he struck on the power play. 
 
Despite being outshot 24-8 in the third period, Franklin Pierce added an insurance goal at 9:43 to go up 5-3, before adding an empty net tally with 56 seconds left in regulation. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Thomas McLarnon and Michael Hauswirth combined to make 14 saves. 
  • Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 69-34, but the shots on goal were only 30-20, with the Ravens blocking 17 shots. 
  • In his first two games back after seven games, Ryan Decker recorded four goals, two in each. 
  • The Greyhounds won 39-of-66 faceoffs, with Decker and Thomas McGaffigan combining to go 26-of-40. 
  • The hosts went 2-for-2 on the powerplay, while the Hounds went 1-for-2. 
  • The Blue and White have at least one goal in the first period over their last six games, where they are being outscored 11-1 in the opening frame. 
  • Assumption leads the all-time series 36-21-7.
