GARDEN CITY, NY—The Assumption University baseball team dropped two close games on the road against the Adelphi University Panthers on Saturday afternoon, falling to 0-5 in NE10 play.

Game One Score: Adelphi University 7, Assumption University 5
Game Two Score: Adelphi University 12, Assumption University 10
Records: Greyhounds 1-17 (0-5 NE10), Panthers 10-8 (4-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Adelphi University 7, Assumption University 5
The Greyhounds struck first when
Jamison Howland singled and scored
Cody Smith to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. The Panthers rallied in the bottom of the first, plating four runs. After Assumption got one back on a sack fly in the fourth, Greyson Pizzonia homered to spark another Adelphi rally in the bottom of the inning. Heading into the sixth, it was Adelphi 7, Assumption 2.
Evan Remington battled through three and two-thirds on the mound and struck out five Panthers.
Cody Smith doubled to left in the top of the sixth, scoring
Owen Podolec.
Jack Barry brought Smith home with a single to center, and suddenly, the Hounds were back in the fight 7-4. Relief pitching from
Matt Connor and
Michael Crowley was strong enough to hold the Panthers. Podolec hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall in the top of the eighth to make it a 7-5 ballgame, but Adelphi kept it right there.
Game Two Score: Adelphi University 12, Assumption University 10
Chris Klein had a three-hit game, and it started with an RBI single to score
Cody Smith and put the Hounds in front in the top of the first. Adelphi answered with a two-run home run by James Eden and tacked on another run after an Assumption error. In the bottom of the second, Joe Pellegrino opened up the scoring with a three-run homer for the Panthers, making it 6-1.
The Greyhounds fought their way through the fourth inning to tack on a pair of runs, and
Cody Smith hit his first home run of the season in the fifth to make it 7-4. Assumption was back in the game again and took control with a six-run sixth inning.
Max Lefrancois singled to start the surge; his hit brought in
Matthew Holbrook to make it 7-5. Podolec lined out, but he hit it deep enough to bring in another Assumption run and make it 7-6. Two runs, including the go-ahead run, came in on a Panthers error. Klein capped off the inning with his third big fly of the season, a two-run home run to make it 10-7 Greyhounds.
The Adelphi came back in the bottom half of the inning, stealing the game 12-10.
