Men's Lacrosse drops OT decision at No. 5 Saint Anselm, 7-6

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 overtime decision at Saint Anselm College Friday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Grappone Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Anselm started fast, as they struck for three straight goals in the opening period. Assumption responded with goals from Cameron Theriault and Brian Shortt to send the game to the second period, with the hosts leading 3-2. The Greyhounds would tie the game halfway through the second quarter as Boomer Staunton potted his ninth goal of the season. 
 
The game would head into halftime tied at 3-3, but the Hawks would regain the lead at 7:05 of the third period, snapping a 22-minute scoreless streak. The hosts would double their lead five minutes later, as Colin Mulvey scored off the first failed clear of the day. Ben McHugh answered the call for Assumption as he recorded his team-leading 27th goal of the season. 
 
In the fourth quarter, Matt Lemay regained a two-goal lead for Saint Anselm with his tally early in the frame, but Ryan Bogar cut the deficit to one before Brian Shortt tied the game with just under three minutes remaining in regulation. The Hawks would win the game in overtime, as Lemay scored with 2:45 remaining in the extra period. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Shane Corcoran recorded 17 stops in the crease for the Greyhounds. 
  • Assumption outshot Saint Anselm 41-40, while the Hawks won 10-of-18 faceoffs. 
  • The Greyhounds defense had five caused turnovers, led by Tom Raeke with two. 
  • Ryan Bogar led the Hounds with three points, one goal, and two assists. 
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series 20-6.
