CHAIN OF LAKES, Fla. – The Assumption University baseball team defense struggles as the Greyhounds fall to No. 15 Ashland University 11-1 in non-conference action Monday afternoon at the Matt Russ Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After silencing the Ashland bats for the first two innings, Assumption starting pitcher
Evan McCarthy ran into some trouble in the third, as an error by the Greyhounds defense surrendered five runs, but zero were charged to McCarthy. The first run that was charged to the senior pitcher came in the top of the fourth, as he let up a solo home run to begin the inning.
The Hounds made three errors in the top of the fifth, which led to four more runs and pushed the Ashland lead to 10-0. Assumption got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as
Cody Smith's fly out to left field was deep enough to score
Owen Podolec from third. The Eagles added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, which made the final score 11-1.
Jack Barry was one home run shy of a cycle, as he went 3-of-4
