GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – In a battle of two top-20 teams in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association coaches poll, the No. 20 Assumption University men's lacrosse team lost to No. 5 Adelphi University 16-5 in Northeast-10 Conference action Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Adelphi started fast, scoring the first six goals of the game before Boomer Staunton got Assumption on the scoreboard with his 11^th tally of the season with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Cameron Theriault cut the deficit by four goals as he opened the second frame with his 15^th of the year. The Panthers added a pair of goals before the end of the period and would head into halftime up 8-2. 

In the third quarter, the hosts continued to extend their advantage with three straight tallies to go up 11-2. Ryan Bogar and Ben McHugh went back-to-back to end the run, but the Adelphi offense would not let up and would string together five straight to push their lead to 16-4. Staunton ended the scoring with his 12^th goal of the season with 3:13 showing on the clock. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Shane Corcoran logged his fourth straight 10+ save performance and eighth of the year with 13 tonight. 
• Adelphi outshot Assumption 44-40, while the Greyhounds won 16-of-25 faceoffs. 
• The Hounds went 1-for-5 on man-up opportunities while holding the Panthers scoreless on two attempts. 
• Earlier this week, Assumption was ranked for the second time in program history and the first time since April 15, 2019. 
• Adelphi still leads the all-time series 16-5.
