Bats come alive in split against SCSU

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University baseball team took game one 16-8, before falling to Southern Connecticut State University 7-4 in the nightcap of the Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader, Sunday afternoon at H.L. Rocheleau Field

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Assumption University 16, Southern Connecticut State University 8
James McDermott got Assumption on the board in the bottom of the second inning, as he hit a solo home run to left field. Max Lefrancois had an RBI single before Cody Smith cleared the bases with a flair double to center, making it 5-0 Greyhounds. Christopher Manzo pushed the Hounds' advantage to 6-0 with an RBI single in the bottom of the third, before Southern Connecticut got on the board with a two-run home run to center field in the top of the fourth. 
 
Assumption extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth, as Jack Barry recorded an RBI single, before Manzo plated a pair with a single to center. The Greyhounds plated three more runs in the fifth, as both Cody Smith and Chris Klein drew bases-loaded walks, before Eric Giarnese and Smith scored on a fielder's choice, making it 13-2. The Owls would cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth, as they plated three runs in the frame, cutting the deficit to 13-5. 
 
Southern Connecticut slowly chipped away at the margin with one run in the seventh and two in the eighth, drawing within five (13-8). Assumption responded with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, with Giarnese and Chris Klein driving in three in the frame to pull away for a 16-8 final score. 
 
Game Two Score: Southern Connecticut State University 7, Assumption University 4
Max Lefrancois started things for the Greyhounds in the bottom of the third, as he tripled to centerfield before scoring on a wild pitch, before Giarnese hit a solo home run to right field to go up 2-0, Southern Connecticut tied the game in the top of the fourth, as they plated two runs in the frame. Jamison Howland responded for the Hounds, blasting a two-run home run to right field, making it 4-2 Assumption. 
 
The Owls would slowly chip away at the deficit and tie the game at 4-4, as they plated one run in the fifth and one in the sixth. SCSU would take their first lead, plating three runs in the seventh to go up 7-4.
