MILLERSVILLE, Pa.– Hailey Doherty scored with 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter, as the No. 5 nationally ranked Assumption University field hockey team defeated Millersville University 2-1 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the pace of play in the first half, as the Greyhounds outshot the opposition 5-0, while also having a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners in the opening 30 minutes. Three minutes into the second half, the Hounds got on the board after Millersville goalkeeper Sarah Crysler made a pair of close saves;
Nova Rijks scored off the rebound. Paige Webster tied the game for the hosts two minutes later, as the Maruaders scored on their first shot on target.
The game would remain tied until the final minute of regulation, as
Hailey Doherty scored her first collegiate goal off the assist by
Caroline Mastergeorge.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Paige Gillette recorded three saves in the cage for Assumption.
- The Greyhounds outshot the Mauraders 15-4, while also leading in the corners department (8-5).
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs; Assumption now leads the all-time series 1-0.
