WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption University football team used two blocked kicks and three rushing touchdowns to defeat Saint Anselm College 30-8 in their Northeast 10 Conference opener, Friday evening at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption was the first team to score, as
Kameron Robbins scored on a one-yard touchdown dive on the Greyhounds' first drive of the game. The ensuing possession for Saint Anselm resulted in a snap that sailed over the punter's head and batted out of the back of the endzone for a safety. On the Hawks' next possession,
Ruairi Ritson blocked the punt at the 32-yard line and
Matt Barrino scooped and scored, putting the Greyhounds up 16-0 one minute into the second quarter.
Saint Anselm got on the board with 1:15 remaining in the second quarter with a scoop and a score of their own, and with a two-point conversion brought the game to halftime with the hosts leading 16-8. After a scoreless third quarter, the Greyhounds' defense held the Hawks scoreless, while Robbins and
Jay Kastantin ran the ball through the opposing defense for 94 yards and two scores to pull away for a 30-8 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jay Kastantin passed for 57 yards through the air, while adding 71 yards on the ground.
- Kameron Robbins took 18 carries for 83 yards and three touchdowns, which is the most rushing scores by a Hound since Jake Cady had four against Franklin Pierce (October 9, 2022).
- Keith Mancini had two receptions for 26 yards, while Robbins had one catch for 21 yards.
- Tindell Frick was all over the field for the Greyhounds, as he had a game-high 13 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one pass breakup, one blocked kick, and three quarterback hurries. Owen Fitzgerald extended his streak of 10+ tackles to five games, as he logged ten with 1.5 tackles for loss, two hurries, and one breakup.
- The Defense as a whole had six sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two blocked kicks, five pass breakups, and 12 quarterback hurries.
- Massimo Sgambati went 4-for-4 on extra points, while Peter Burns had six punts averaging 36.8 yards and a pair landing inside the 20.
- Assumption now leads the all-time series 19-8.
