BUFFALO, N.Y.– The Assumption University volleyball team dropped both matches on day one of the D'Youville Tournament, as the Greyhounds fell to Slippery Rock University 3-1 and Frostburg State University 3-0, Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One – Slippery Rock University 3, Assumption University 1
Slippery Rock started strong, as they went up 5-2. The Rocks' lead would grow to 11-6 before Assumption started to chip away at the deficit, down to 14-12. SRU would pull away at that point and go on an 11-2 run to take the opening set 25-14. In the second set, the Greyhounds would maintain a slight edge, 5-3. Slippery Rock would close the gap before the two teams exchanged the next few points. SRU would go on to take the second set 25-19.
The third set was still neck and neck throughout, but Assumption would see their largest lead of the set coming following a block by
Christine Mbachi and
Lily Petrocelli at 14-9. The Rock would close the margin and would regain a lead at 23-22. The Hounds would not go quietly, as they would record the following three points to take the third set. In the fourth, Slippery Rock took control early, jumping out to a 9-3 advantage. Assumption would chip away at the deficit and would get within one (21-20), but would eventually fall 25-21.
Match Two – Frostburg State University 3, Assumption University 0
The opening set against Frostburg State was tight for the first few points, but it was Assumption who would take the first multiple-point lead, going up 10-7. The Greyhounds' advantage would grow to 15-10, but the Bobcats would battle back and take their first lead since 2-1 at 18-17. The two teams would trade points, but it would be FSU that would take the first set 26-24. The second set was more of the same as the first set, with the Hounds going up early, before the Bobcats chipping away at the margin and winning the set by a tight score (25-22).
The third set was all Frostburg, as the Red and White went on an 11-6 run after leading 15-10, and would go on to win the third and deciding set 25-16.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Grace Presswood totaled 19 kills, 40 digs, and three assists.
- Marissa Krawczyk powered the offense with 35 assists while adding 20 digs. Marisa Billone filled the stat sheet with eight kills, 16 assists, and nine digs.
- Slippery Rock now leads the all-time series 2-0, while Frostburg leads 1-0.
