FLUSHING, N.Y.– The Assumption University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Aline Pascale Lubin Invitational, as the Greyhounds fell in the opener to Post University (3-1), before falling to the hosts, Queens College, Friday evening inside Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One – Post University 3, Assumption University 1
Assumption started strong in the opening set, as they capitalized on some errors by Post to go up 7-4. After the Eagles got within two at 7-5, the Greyhounds would slowly pull away down the stretch with
Grace Presswood and
Christine Mbachi recording five kills to take the first set 25-21.
After Post took the second set 25-16, the Hounds raced out to a 7-3 lead early in the third set with
Madison Lupino recording two kills, while Kaityln Montgomery had one. The Eagles would slowly chip away at the deficit before tying the set at 13-13. The two teams would trade the following few points before the Eagles closed the set on a 9-6 run, with Kristina Peric logging five kills for the team in orange. Post would carry their momentum into the fourth set, and they would run away with a 25-15 fourth set win, to complete the reverse sweep.
Match Two: Queens College 3, Assumption University 2
After dropping the opening set of their second game of the day, the Greyhounds bounced back in the second set to win 25-22 with Montgomery recording five kills in the set, while
Lily Petrocelli (4), Mbachi (3), and
Lily LeDuc (3) logged multiple kills in the frame.
In the third frame, LeDuc led the way for Assumption as her four kills powered the Hounds, while Queens contributed 14 errors in the frame for a 25-20 middle set win for the Greyhounds. The Knights flipped the script in the fourth set, as they ran away for a 25-16 score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Montgomery led the Greyhounds with 20 kills on the afternoon, while Mbachi (14), LeDuc (13), Presswood (12), and Petrocelli (10) all had 10+ kills in the tri-match.
- Marissa Krawczyk recorded 47 assists between the two matches, while Natalie Brojek had 14, and Marisa Billone added nine.
- Defensively, Makenna Glenn led the charge with 43 digs, while adding five aces.
- As a team, the Hounds logged nine solo blocks and four more combo blocks.
- Post now leads the all-time series 5-2, while Queens is now 3-0 against Assumption.
