ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.– The Assumption University volleyball team dropped both ends of their tri-match against No. 19 Gannon University and Molloy University, Saturday afternoon on the campus of Molloy University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One –No. 19 Gannon University 3, Assumption University 1
Gannon took control of the match from the opening set, as they raced out to a 10-4 advantage. Assumption would get within four (13-9) points following a
Kaitlyn Montgomery kill, but the Golden Knights showed why they were nationally ranked and would take the opening set 25-15.
In the second set, the Greyhounds would stay within striking distance early against Gannon (8-5), but then the Golden Knights went on an 8-2 run to go up 17-7. The Hounds would attempt to make a comeback, but Gannon would fend off Assumption with a 25-17 set two victory.
Assumption came as the aggressors early in the third frame, as they took an early 7-4 advantage. Gannon would eventually tie the set at 15-15 following a 4-0 run, but with the Golden Knights leading 21-19, the Greyhounds would go on to take six of the final eight points to steal the third set. Gannon would not mess around and would not allow the match to go to a fifth set, as they raced out to a 9-1 lead before ballooning it to 19-3, before winning the set 25-10.
Match Two: Molloy University 3, Assumption University 0
In the opening set against Molloy, the two teams were neck and neck for the majority of the set. With Assumption leading 18-17, the Lions would close out the first frame on an 8-4 run to take it 25-21. The second set was more of the same, as neither squad could establish much momentum. With the score set at 17-16, in favor of the hosts, Molloy went on a 7-4 run to get within set point (24-19). Assumption made a late push, but the Lions would go up 2-0 following a 25-22 second set dub.
The third set was all Molloy, as the hosts went up 18-4, before the Greyhounds cut the deficit down to 10 (20-10) and would eventually fall 25-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Montgomery continued to lead the Greyhounds with 17 kills in the two matches, while Grace Presswood chipped in nine, and Lily Petrocelli added eight.
- Marissa Krawczyk logged 36 assists, while Makenna Glenn recorded 31 digs.
- Gannon now leads the all-time series 1-0, while Assumption still leads the all-time series against Molloy 6-3.
