SHELTON, Conn.— Jonathan Surrette scored the game-winning goal at 3:32 of overtime, as the Assumption University men's ice hockey team topped Post University 6-5 in Northeast 10 Conference action, Tuesday afternoon.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Post started fast, as they scored two goals in the opening 6:38 of the first period, with the first one coming on the man-advantage.
Jake Russell got Assumption on the board with a power play goal of their own before Hunter DeMarco recorded his first collegiate goal as he tipped in Andrew Tooney's blast from the point.
The second period had to wait until the 12:13 marker, where Brett Cunnigham gave the Greyhounds' their first lead of the day, as he netted a 5-on-3 power play goal of the afternoon.
Jake DiNapoli doubled the Blue and White advantage with a man-up goal at 14:21. Post would not go quietly, as they scored a pair of power play goals in the final five minutes to tie the game at 4-4.
In the third period the scoring would slow down, as only two goals were scored. Baxter Kimball gave Post the lead, with his tally at the 7:16 marker. Assumption would play buzzer beaters, as
Leo Piandes scored in the final seven seconds of regulation, sending the game to overtime. In the extra period,
Jonathan Surrette scored the game-winner at 3:32, as
Shane McElhaney and Piandes picked up the assist.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Callum Welch logged 29 saves in the win.
- Assumption outshot Post 64-34, while the two teams split the 72 faceoffs.
- Both teams scored multiple times on the man-advantage, as the Greyhounds were 4-of-10, while the Eagles were 3-of-9.
- Assumption has scored 32 goals over its last seven games.
- Jonathan Surrette extended his point streak to ten games, where he has scored 10 goals and eight assists.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 25-5-1.
