EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The Assumption University women's ice hockey team scored a pair of power play goals to top Long Island University 3-2 in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action, Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption was the first team to score, as
Kayla McGaffigan redirected a shot from the point by Justina Valintini on the power play for the Greyhounds, 3:55 into the game.
Rachel Agerter doubled the Hounds' lead 2:29 later, as she went coast-to-coast and scored to the near post. LIU would get on the board at the 7:31 marker, as Ryane Kearns scored an unassisted tally for the hosts.
The second period was almost a scoreless frame, but
Heather Ajakie found the back of the net with 3:45 left in the frame, giving the Greyhounds a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. Grace Babington got the hosts within one (3-2) just under the halfway mark of the third period. LIU would have their chances late in the third period, but it would be Assumption that came away with a 3-2 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser recorded 29 saves in the win.
- LIU outshot Assumption 31-21, while also winning 28-of-47 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds went 2-of-7 on the power play, while LIU was scoreless on two attempts.
- This is the sixth time this season that Assumption has scored more than one power-play goal.
- LIU leads the all-time series 7-3-1
