WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University women's basketball team saw career-highs from
Emily Collins and
Reese Matela, as the Greyhounds topped Franklin Pierce University 72-60 in Northeast 10 Conference action, Saturday afternoon inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
There was no shortage of offense in the first quarter from both teams, as both teams traded baskets, and it was tied at 20-20 after the first 10 minutes of the contest. Assumption slowly pulled away in the second quarter, as they were able to get a few stops before
Reese Matela and
Emily Collins combined to go on a 7-0 run to give the Greyhounds a 38-31 lead with 3:06 remaining before halftime. Following a jumper by Laia Llorente, the Hounds closed out the first half on a 9-2 run to grab a 47-35 lead entering the intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Ravens chipped away at the deficit and would get the margin down to seven following a triple by Armani Rivera at the 3:38 mark, but the hosts would hold a ten-point edge at the turn to home (60-50). In the fourth quarter, the scoring slowed down, but it would be the Greyhounds who would edge the Ravens on the scoreboard during the frame (12-10) and would come away with a 72-60 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Emily Collins has a game-high 24 points, while adding two rebounds and three steals.
- Teagan Curran (13) and Reese Matela (10) both recorded double-digit points, while Matela was a perfect 6-of-6 shooting (4-4 field goals, 2-2 free throws)
- Both sides pulled down 33 rebounds, while the Greyhounds had 25 assists and 13 steals.
- Assumption still leads the all-time series 33-18
