Women's Basketball falls at SNHU, 56-51

MANCHESTER, N.H.— The Assumption University women's basketball team had their comeback come up short, as they fell to Southern New Hampshire University 56-51 in Northeast 10 Conference action, Wednesday evening. 

THE BASICS:

Records: Greyhounds (13-5, 6-5 NE10) | Penmen (11-6, 6-4 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The first quarter was a slow one, as neither side could get much established on offense, as Assumption led 4-3 just past the halfway mark of the frame. Following the media timeout, the scoring would ramp up, as both sides scored 11 points, and the Greyhounds would lead 15-14 after 10 minutes of action. Laura Johnson-Shedd powered the Hounds offense with ten points in the quarter. The second quarter continued to be close, as both sides traded buckets. Assumption had the largest lead of the frame, as Emily Collins had a hook shot with 50 seconds remaining in the half, giving the Blue and White a three-point (27-24) edge. SNHU would get a layup before the end of the first half, to head into the locker room with the visitors leading 27-26. 
 
 
Southern New Hampshire opened up the third quarter strong, as they went on an 8-0 run run to begin the frame, before expanding it to a nine-point advantage (40-31) following a Kameron St. Pierre layup with 41-seconds to go. The two teams would each grab two points before the end of the quarter, with SNHU leading 40-32. Assumption would not go away quietly, as they would cut the deficit down to three points (53-51) after Teagan Curran converted a layup with 18 seconds left in regulation. The comeback would come up short, as the Penmen would hit three-of-four free throws to secure a 56-51 final score. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Teagan Curran led the way for Assumption with 16 points, while Emily Collins (11), and Laura Johnson-Shedd (10) both added double-digit points. 
  • Southern New Hampshire outrebounded Assumption 45-37, while the Penmen outscored the Greyhounds 30-22 in the paint. 
  • Assumption still leads the all-time series 32-22
