WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University women's basketball team used a strong first quarter to get back in the win column, following a 66-54 win over Saint Michael's College, in Northeast 10 Conference action, Saturday afternoon inside Andrew Laska Gymnasium. 

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 66, Saint Michael's College 54
Records: Greyhounds (14-5, 7-5 NE10) | Purple Knights (9-10, 4-7 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
The scoring started slowly, but Assumption was the first team to take the first advantage of the game, as they used a 6-0 run to go up 10-4. The Greyhounds' lead would continue to grow, as they took an 11-point advantage at the end of the first quarter, as Madison Handrahan connected from three-quarters court, beating the buzzer. 
 
The second quarter tilted in favor of Saint Michael's, as they were able to trim the deficit down to five points (30-25), following a driving layup by Margaret Montplaisir with 1:06 showing on the clock. Thai Davis finished off the first half with a three-pointer and a layup in the final seconds, giving the hosts a 35-25 lead at the break. 
 
Coming out of the intermission, the Greyhounds scored the first five points of the quarter to go up by 15 (40-25). After a quick 5-0 run by the Purple Knights, Handrahan fueled an 8-0 run, giving Assumption an 18-point edge (48-30). Montplaisir drained a three-pointer at the end of the quarter, sending the game to the fourth, with the hosts leading 48-33. 
 
The Hounds started the final quarter strong, as Laura Johnson-Shedd and Teagan Curran had back-to-back baskets, extending their lead to 19 (52-33) less than 90 seconds into the frame. Saint Michael's would attempt to make a comeback as they would cut the deficit down to 11 points, but the Greyhounds would do more than enough to come away with a 12-point win at home. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Madison Handrahan led the way for Assumption with 14 points, while Teagan Curran chipped in 13. 
• Thai Davis had a near triple-double, as she recorded nine points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. 
• Assumption outrebounded Saint Michael's 38-30, while the Purple Knights won the battle in the paint (32-28). 
• The Greyhounds were lights out from long range, as they were 9-of-14 (64.3 percent), led by Handrahan, who was a perfect four-for-four. 
• Assumption still leads the all-time series 45-13
