Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Surrette powers Men's Ice Hockey sweep of Saint Michael's, 4-1

WORCESTER, Mass.— Led by his first collegiate hat-trick, Jonathan Surrette led the Assumption University men's ice hockey team to a 4-1 win over Saint Michael's College in Northeast 10 Conference action, Saturday afternoon at the Worcester Ice Center.

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Saint Michael's was the first team to score, as Jack Tuite lit the lamp for the Purple Knights at 12:29 of the first period. Jonathan Surrette answered for Assumption, as he tied the game in the final minute of the frame. Surrette struck again, this time on the power play to begin the second period. 
 
The Greyhounds would carry a 2-1 lead into the third period, but they would have to wait until the 13:58 marker when Jake Russell scored on the man-advantage. Surrette would strike once more, as he scored an empty net score with 2:10 left in regulation to secure a 4-1 win against Saint Michael's. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Michael Salvatore logged 28 saves for his fifth-straight win. 
  • Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 37-29, while the Purple Knights won 34-of-66 faceoffs. 
  • The Greyhounds went 2-for-4 on the man advantage, while holding Saint Michael's scoreless on four power plays. 
  • With three goals tonight, Jonathan Surrette has the most goals scored in the NE10 since Assumption alumnus Pat O'Kane had 26 during the 2009-10 campaign. 
  • The Greyhounds have now extended their winning streak to seven games and their unbeaten streak to ten. 
  • Pregame, the Assumption University Athletic Department honored Men's Ice Hockey Team Impact signee Talon Stewart to cap off "Talon's Toy Story Weekend". 
  • Saint Michael's still leads the all-time series 45-34-4
