WORCESTER, Mass.— Brett Cunningham nets the game-winner at 57-seconds into overtime, as the Assumption University men's ice hockey team topped Southern New Hampshire University 5-4 in Northeast 10 Conference action Friday evening.

Records: Greyhounds (17-7-2, 11-2-2 NE10) | Penmen (8-12-1, 4-10-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption was the first team to get on the board, as
Shane McElhaney scored on the power play at 1:22 of the first period. Southern New Hampshire tied the game four minutes later. The Penmen started the second stanza strong, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes to go up 3-1. Caden Connor cut the deficit in half at 13:27.
The game would head into the third period, as the Greyhounds received goals from
Jake Russell (power play) and
Jonathan Surrette, to go up 4-3. SNHU tied the game at 12:20 while on the power play. Neither team would score in the final 7:40 of regulation, sending the game to overtime, where
Brett Cunningham would net the game-winner 57-seconds in.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Callum Welch recorded 31 saves in the win.
- Assumption outshot Southern New Hampshire 44-35, while the Penmen won 54-of-97 faceoffs.
- Both teams scored twice on the power play, as the Hounds had six man-advantages, while SNHU had four chances.
- Jonathan Surrette recorded one goal and added two assists, becoming the first player in college hockey this season to eclipse the 50-point mark.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 44-43-5
