COLCHESTER, VT. —The Assumption University women's basketball team rallied from down seven points with 2:30 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 59-58 win at Saint Michael's College in Northeast 10 Conference action, Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Michael's started fast, as Ashlee Talbot and Molly Brophy hit two three-pointers to begin the game for the hosts. After Talbot hit a pair of free throws to go up 8-0, less than three minutes in,
Laura Johnson-Shedd put Assumption on the board with a transition layup.
Emily Collins had a quick 5-0 run to get Assumption within one (8-7), before
Teagan Curran had one of her own to give the Greyhounds' their first lead of the game at 12-10. After back-to-back layups by the Purple Knights, the Blue and White closed out the opening quarter on a 6-0 run to take an 18-14 lead.
After
Thai Davis opened up the second quarter with a layup, extending the Assumption advantage to six (20-14), Saint Michael's cut the deficit to just one after back-to-back baskets. Collins connected from long range before the hosts would close out the first half on a 12-7 run and would take a 31-30 lead into the intermission.
Coming out of halftime, the two teams traded baskets, but with Assumption leading 34-33, Saint Michael's went on a 5-0 run to take a 38-34 lead. The Hounds answered with a 9-0 run to regain a five-point lead (43-38). The Purple Knights would close out the third on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 45-45, heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the hosts had a strong start, going on a 12-5 run to open the frame and take a 57-50 lead, but back-to-back scores by
Emily Collins cut the deficit to three (57-54) with just under two minutes remaining in regulation. The Greyhounds would go on a 5-1 run down the stretch, including three clutch free throws by
Teagan Curran to secure a 59-58 road win for Assumption.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Teagan Curran tied a career-high 22 points, while Emily Collins poured in 16 points.
- Assumption outrebounded Saint Michael's College 41-32, while having a slight edge in scoring in the paint (32-30).
- Thai Davis and Laura Johnson-Shedd combined for 12 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and three blocks.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 44-13
