SHELTON, Conn. - The Assumption University women's ice hockey team would fall 13 seconds into the overtime period, as Post University came away with a 2-1 final score in overtime, Friday afternoon in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action.
THE BASICS:
Score: Post University 2, Assumption University 1 - OT
Records: Greyhounds (8-11-2. 8-5-2 NEWHA) | Eagles (7-13-1, 7-7-1 NEWHA)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first period, Assumption controlled the action, as they outshot Post 24-8, while just 14-3 went on target. The Greyhounds had two power play opportunities, but both netminders kept the puck out of their respective nets.
After a scoreless second period,
Caroline Lilley got Assumption on the board with 13:17 left in regulation, as she scored off the rebound from
Kayla McGaffigan's shot. Post would tie the game 3:38 left in regulation as Jodie Rose scored with a backhanded shot. The game would head into overtime, where Emma Hoen scored the game-winner just 13 seconds into the extra frame.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser logged 13 saves in the loss.
- Assumption outshot Post 38-14, while also winning 26-of-47 faceoffs.
- Neither side scored on the power play, as the Greyhounds were 0-for-3 while Post did not receive a power play.
- The Hounds are now 4-3 in seven games that have gone past regulation.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 5-4-2.
