WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Assumption University volleyball team cruised to their third win in four matches, as the Greyhounds swept Post University, 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption jumped out to an early advantage in the opening set, using consecutive kills from
Kaitlyn Montgomery to build a 7-3 lead. The Greyhounds extended the margin to 11-4 behind a block from
Christine Mbachi and a combined block from Montgomery and Mbachi. Post pulled within 13-11, but Assumption answered with a 6-1 run, highlighted by kills from Mbachi,
Cate Wettstone, Lilyanna Petrocelli and
Grace Presswood, along with a
Brennah Abilheira-Cargill service ace, to take a 19-12 advantage. The Greyhounds maintained control from there and closed out the first set, 25-20, on a Wettstone-Mbachi block.
The Greyhounds scored the first three points of the second set before Post battled back and eventually took an 11-9 lead. Assumption responded with five straight points, including kills from Montgomery and Mbachi and a Montgomery-Mbachi block, to regain a 14-11 advantage. The Eagles kept fighting and tied the frame at 17-17, but Assumption scored six of the next eight points to take a 23-19 lead. Post pulled within one at 24-23 before
Nora Sharkey delivered the set-clinching kill for a 25-23 victory.
Assumption grabbed a 5-1 advantage early in the third set behind consecutive Petrocelli kills and a Wettstone-Petrocelli block. Post rallied to tie the frame at 5-5, but the Greyhounds never surrendered the lead and gradually pulled away. Assumption carried a 21-16 advantage into the closing stretch before Mbachi made it 22-19 with a kill.
Makenna Glenn then took over from the service line, recording three consecutive aces to close out the set, 25-19, and complete the 3-0 sweep.
