RINDGE, NH -- The Assumption University volleyball team got off to a fast start to earn a 3-1 Northeast 10 Conference win over Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption came out strong in the opening set, using a 6-0 run to take a 9-3 advantage over Franklin Pierce. The Greyhounds continued to build their lead behind a balanced offensive attack, extending the margin to 19-9.
Kaitlyn Montgomery recorded back-to-back kills late in the frame, helping Assumption cruise to a 25-11 victory.
The Ravens responded in the second set, jumping out to an early 7-4 lead before Assumption battled back to take a 12-10 advantage. Franklin Pierce regained the lead at 18-15, but the Greyhounds answered with a 6-0 run behind
Natalie Brojek's serve to take a 21-18 lead. Assumption closed out the set with a kill from
Christine Mbachi to secure the 25-19 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Franklin Pierce controlled the early portion of the third set, building a 16-9 advantage. Assumption responded with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a service ace from
Brennah Abilheira-Cargill, to take a 19-18 lead. The teams traded points down the stretch, with Montgomery giving the Greyhounds a 24-23 advantage. However, the Ravens scored the final three points to steal the set, 26-24, and extend the match.
The fourth set featured nine ties as neither team could establish a significant advantage. Trailing 18-16, Assumption rattled off three consecutive points, capped by a Montgomery kill, to take a 19-18 lead. The teams continued to exchange points before the Greyhounds broke a 22-22 tie with three straight points. Lilyanna Petrocelli recorded a kill to bring up match point, and Abilheira-Cargill sealed the 25-22 victory with a service ace, giving Assumption the 3-1 conference win.
