WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 17 Mercy University, 13-12 in overtime in a non-conference matchup, Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Mercy scored the opening goal, Assumption responded with three straight tallies by
Patrik McGrath,
Kole Mancini, and
Ben McHugh to go up 3-1. The Mavericks struck once more before the end of the first quarter, but began the second with four consecutive strikes, to go up 6-4.
Max Lowenberg halted the run, but Matthew Magyar scored in the final few seconds, giving the visitors a 7-4 lead at the intermission.
Coming out of halftime, it was all Greyhounds, as they scored five in the opening 10 minutes, with
Patrick Johnston (twice),
Brian Shortt,
Boomer Staunton, and Lowenberg all finding the back of the cage, to regain a 9-7 advantage. The two teams would strike, sending the game to the fourth quarter with Assumption leading 10-8. Mercy tied the game at 10-10 before
Jacob Wilson and McHugh put the hosts back in front with 8:16 left in regulation. The Mavericks would not go quietly, as they scored two goals in the final 1:43, including one coming under 25 seconds left, to tie the game at 12. The game would head to overtime, where Jack Agres scored the game-winner with 2:33 left in the extra period.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shane Corcoran recorded 14 saves in the loss.
- Assumption outshot Mercy 44-36, while also winning 15-of-29 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds were 1-for-3 with the man-advantage, while the Mavericks were 0-for-5.
- Mercy now leads the all-time series 3-0
