MANCHESTER, N.H.— The Assumption University women's ice hockey team extended their winning streak to four games, as the Greyhounds scored three third-period goals en route to a 4-2 win over Saint Anselm College in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action, Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 4, Saint Anselm College 2
Records: Greyhounds (16-13-3, 16-7-3 NEWHA) | Hawks (15-16-1, 15-10-1 NEWHA)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Anselm was the first team to score, as Lauren Waldo scored in the final 1:12 of the first period. Assumption would eventually get on the board, just past the halfway mark of the second period, as
Kayla McGaffigan lit the lamp.
The game went to the third period tied at 1-1, but
Caroline Lilley broke the tie for the Greyhounds with a power play goal at 2:43 marker. The Hawks tied the game when Brooklyn Schneiderhan scored at 13:25, but just over a minute later,
Rachel Agerter put Assumption back in front.
Natalie Joiner would score an empty net goal with 1:58 showing on the clock to secure the weekend sweep for the Greyhounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser recorded 33 saves for the win.
- Saint Anselm outshot Assumption 35-33, while also winning 45-of-75 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds were the only team to score on the power play, as they were 1-for-4 and held the Hawks to 0-for-3.
- Assumption has now established new program-highs in consecutive regulation wins (four), and is improved their regular season win total to 16.
- Saint Anselm still leads the all-time series 7-4 -1.
