Women's Basketball rallies past Saint Anselm, 53-48

WORCESTER, MASS.—Dynamite defense in the fourth quarter helped the Assumption University women's basketball complete a ten-point comeback over Saint Anselm for a 53-48 Northeast 10 Conference win in Andrew Laska Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 53, Saint Anselm College 48
Records: Greyhounds (18-6, 10-6 NE10) | Hawks (12-9, 7-9 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In a game full of lead changes and adjustments, Saint Anselm began the game with the momentum. Tatum Forbes, the NE10 leading scorer and leader in assists, helped fly the Hawks in front 8-4 in the first quarter. The Greyhounds came alive when Laura Johnson-Shedd put up four quick points, and Teagan Curran hit back-to-back three-pointers to take the lead and get some insurance for the Hounds, 14-10. The first quarter ended on a Johnson-Shedd jumper with the Greyhounds leading 16-10.

The second quarter started well for Assumption, as they held their largest lead of the game, seven points, after a made free throw by Morgan Johnson. Then, as she so often does for the Hawks, Tatum Forbes led an offensive surge that helped Saint A's outscore the Hounds 12-5 in the second quarter. The visitors carried a one-point lead into the half.

In the third quarter alone, the lead changed hands six times. Saint Anselm had doubled their point total from the first half in just the third quarter. They put up 22, pulling away from Assumption, who managed 15. With ten seconds left in the quarter, the Hawks had a ten-point lead, their largest of the game. Curran hit a pull-up basket to cut the Greyhounds deficit to eight as the quarter came to a close.

In the final quarter, the Hounds' defense locked everything down. Assumption kept Saint A's off the board for the first 6:22. Outstanding defense helped the Greyhound offense go on an 11-point run. Enough to recapture the lead. On offense, the Hawks only managed two baskets in the fourth quarter. It was the defensive masterpiece of the season for the final ten minutes of play that lifted the Hounds over the Hawks 53-48 at the final horn.
