FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Assumption University women's ice hockey team locked up the number two seed for the upcoming New England Women's Hockey Alliance playoffs with a 3-2 win at Sacred Heart University, Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kayla McGaffigan got the scoring started for Assumption, as she scored at 8:46 of the first period.
Natalie Joiner doubled the lead for the Greyhounds, as she scored while short-handed. 16 seconds later, Sacred Heart got on the board, as Grayson Limke recorded a power play for the hosts.
The Hounds would carry a 2-1 lead into the third period, but the lead would evaporate, as the Pioneers tied the game with another power play tally 2:29 into the frame. McGaffigan would regain the lead for Assumption, as she redirected the shot from
Justina Valentini, while on the power play with 12:00 minutes left in regulation. Sacred Heart would pull their netminder with 1:57 left in regulation, but they could not find the equalizer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser had 25 saves in the win.
- Assumption outshot Sacred Heart 34-27, while also winning 31-of-48 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds were a perfect 1-for-1 on the power play, while the Pioneers went 2-for-6.
- Assumption now leads the all-time series 6-4-2
