HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption came out of the gates strong, as they scored two goals on the first four shots on target.
Caroline Lilley was the first to score, as she scored with a low-angled wrist shot, beating the Post netminder above her blocker shoulder at the 6:58 marker. The Greyhounds doubled their lead at 14:20 of the first period, as
Alaina Whitesell found a streaking
Natalie Joiner at the far post, and she tapped in the shot through the five-hole, making it 2-0. Captain
Kayla McGaffigan extended the Blue and White advantage to 3-0 before the end of the first period, as
Justina Valentini found the captain in the slot, and her wrist shot beat the Eagles' tender, nine seconds into the game's first power play.
Post would eventually get on the board at the 8:17 marker of the middle frame, as Caryss Kehl scored on a wrist shot from the point, through traffic in the slot, making it 3-1 Assumption.
The game would head into the latter portion of the third period with the Greyhounds maintaining a 3-1 advantage, but with the goalie pulled, Tristan Currie made it 3-2 with two minutes left in regulation, as she scored on a failed clearing attempt by the Blue and White defense. The Eagles would pull their goalie once again, but with 10 seconds left in regulation, Alexa Handrahan blocked a shot and then skated down to the other end of the sheet and tapped in the empty net goal with 2.5 seconds showing on the game clock, sending the Greyhounds to the NEWHA Semifinals.
