Caron's career day leads to a split at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y.—For the second-straight day, the Assumption University baseball team dropped the first game to Adelphi University, before responding to win game two, in Northeast 10 Conference action, Sunday afternoon. 
 
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One Score: Adelphi University 8, Assumption University 5 
Adelphi jumped out to an early lead in game one, as the Panthers scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Greyhounds got on the board in the top of the third, as Michael Caron scored on a Nick Paharik sacrifice fly to right field. 

After a James McDermott solo home run in the fourth, the hosts answered with a sacrifice fly in the sixth to go up 8-2. Assumption would not go quietly, as Caron hit a two-run home run to right field before Tony Salvatelli drove in Will Panza with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. The Hounds would load the bases with just one out in the frame, but they could not find the tying run and would fall 8-5 in game one.

For the second-straight game, Adelphi was the first team to score, as they plated two runs in the bottom of the second. McDermott put Assumption on the board in the third, as he drew a bases-loaded walk, but the Panthers would respond in the bottom of the frame to go up 3-1. 


After a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth by the hosts, the Greyhounds answered in the sixth, as Patrick Kostiw drove in a pair with a single to right center field, before Caron picked up an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4. Adelphi regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh as they scored one run in the frame. The Hounds would not go away quietly, as Will Panza drove in Patrick McManus with a groundout before Caron hit a two-run home run to right field, putting the Blue and White up 7-5. 
 
In the ninth inning, the Greyhounds added to their lead, as Kostiw drove in Chris Klein with a single to left center, while Caron plated two more runs with a single to center field. In the bottom of the ninth, Ethan Barrington got a double play and a ground out to secure a 10-5 win in the nightcap.
