WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 18 nationally ranked Assumption University men's lacrosse team came up short in their top-20 matchup with No. 2 Saint Anselm College, as the Greyhounds fell to the Hawks 15-12, in Northeast 10 Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Boomer Staunton started the scoring for Assumption with his goal at 13:32 of the first quarter. After a goal from Matt Lemay for Saint Anselm,
Ben McHugh and
Max Lowenberg went back-to-back to go up 3-1. The Hawks answered with six-straight tallies to give them a 7-3 edge.
Brian Shortt and McHugh closed out the first quarter with goals, making it 7-5 after 15 minutes of action.
Charlie Dean opened the second by extending the Saint Anselm lead to 8-5, which was responded to by two goals from
Patrik McGrath and one from McHugh to tie the game. The Hawks added two goals to end the first half, with a 10-8 advantage. Saint Anselm opened up the second half with a trio of goals to extend their lead to 13-8. McHugh answered with a pair of strikes, but Ben Turpin responded with two of his own, giving the Hawks a 15-10 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
Max Lowenberg started the fourth quarter with his 14
th goal of the season, before Staunton trimmed the deficit down to three goals, but that would be all that the Greyhounds would get, and they would fall 15-12.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shane Corcoran recorded 15 saves in the loss.
- Ben McHugh led the Greyhounds with five goals and six points, while Brian Shortt added one goal and three assists.
- Saint Anselm outshot Assumption 47-32, while also winning 26-of-31 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds have now dropped three games this season, all coming against nationally ranked opponents.
- The Hawks now lead the all-time series 21-6.
