Lowenberg sends Men's Lacrosse to the NE10 Semifinals, following a 10-9 OT win vs. St. Mike's

WORCESTER, Mass. – For the first time in program history, the Assumption University men's lacrosse team has moved on to the Northeast 10 Conference Semifinals, after besting the No. 5 seed, Saint Michael's College, 10-9 in overtime, Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Boomer Staunton got the scoring started, as he scored 22 seconds into the game. Saint Michael's answered a minute later, as Sean Murphy tied the contest, but that was responded with goals from Staunton and Finnegan McKeon to go up 3-1. The Purple Knights tied the game before the end of the first quarter, with two goals in the final 30 seconds of the frame. 
 
After the two teams each scored in the first eight minutes, Max Lowenberg, Patrik McGrath, and Staunton gave the hosts a 7-4 lead at the intermission. In the third quarter, the Purple Knights closed the gap, as they outscored the Hounds 2-1 in the frame, sending the game to the fourth with Assumption leading 8-6. Saint Michael's refused to go away in the fourth, as they would tie the game at 9-9 with 5:31 left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. 
 
In the extra frame, both netminders made big-time saves, but after a save by Shane Corcoran, a quick transition by Boomer Staunton, he found Max Lowenberg at the far post for a one-time shot to win the game, 10-9 for the Greyhounds. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Shane Corcoran recorded 15 saves in the win. 
  • Boomer Staunton led the Hounds with three goals and two assists for five 
  • Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 58-37, while also winning 15-of-22 faceoffs. 
  • The Purple Knights went 1-for-5 with the extra man, while the Greyhounds were scoreless on three attempts. 
  • This was Assumption's second NE10 playoff win, as the Greyhounds defeated the Purple Knights in the 2021 NE10 First Round, 10-7.
  • Saint Michael's still leads the all-time series 20-910.
