HOW IT HAPPENED
Adelphi University came out fast, scoring eight goals in the opening quarter to put Assumption University in an early hole at 8-0.
Despite the deficit, Assumption began to settle in during the second quarter, generating more offensive opportunities and breaking through for its first goal of the night. However, Adelphi continued to capitalize on its chances, extending the lead to 14-1 at halftime.
Out of the break, Assumption showed improved possession and composure, finding more success at the faceoff X and putting together longer offensive sets. The Greyhounds were able to add another goal in the third quarter, but Adelphi maintained control and carried a 20-2 lead into the fourth.
In the final quarter, Assumption displayed resilience, netting three goals while continuing to push the tempo and create chances on the offensive end. The late surge highlighted the Greyhounds' fight despite the scoreline, but Adelphi answered with four goals of its own to secure the 24-5 result.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shane Corcoran and James Lopez combined to record four saves.
- Ben McHugh and Patrik McGrath led the way for Assumption on the offensive end, as the duo each scored two goals.
- Adelphi outshot Assumption 51-34, while also winning 18-of-33 faceoffs.
- The Panthers went 3-for-5 with the extra man, while the Greyhounds were 0-for-3.
- Adelphi leads the all-time series 17-0.
