MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The Assumption University volleyball team dropped both ends of their tri-match on Sunday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University, as the Greyhounds lost 3-0 to Dominican before falling 3-1 to SNHU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dominican University 3, Assumption University 0
Assumption came out strong in the opening set, as kills from
Christine Mbachi and
Kendall Larkin helped the Greyhounds race out to a 4-0 lead. After Dominican moved in front, Assumption battled back from a 21-16 deficit behind consecutive kills from Lilyanna Petrocelli, while
Kaitlyn Montgomery pulled the Greyhounds within one at 22-21. Dominican responded with the final three points to take the set, 25-21.
The Greyhounds built a 14-9 advantage in the second set, with Petrocelli, Larkin and
Cate Wettstone contributing kills, while
Grace Presswood and
Brooke Bowbliss each recorded a service ace. Assumption maintained a 20-17 edge following another Petrocelli kill, but Dominican rallied to tie the frame at 20-20 before closing on an 8-1 run to take the set, 25-21.
Assumption and Dominican went back-and-forth throughout the third, with the Greyhounds taking a 17-16 lead following a Petrocelli kill. Montgomery recorded consecutive kills earlier in the frame, while Presswood added a service ace. Dominican answered with the final nine points to secure the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
Southern New Hampshire University 3, Assumption University 1
Assumption held an early 9-9 tie in the opening set behind kills from
Cate Wettstone,
Marguerita Sharkey and
Kendall Larkin. The Greyhounds later used a 5-1 run, highlighted by blocks from Lilyanna Petrocelli,
Brooke Bowbliss, Wettstone and
Kaitlyn Montgomery, to take a 21-20 lead before SNHU rallied for a 25-22 win.
The Greyhounds remained close throughout the second set and pulled within two at 20-18 following a
Grace Presswood service ace and a Montgomery kill.
Natalie Brojek added an ace as Assumption cut the deficit to 22-21, but the Penmen scored the final three points for a 25-21 decision.
Assumption responded with its strongest set of the match in the third.
Christine Mbachi's service ace sparked an early run before Larkin, Bowbliss, Petrocelli and Montgomery helped the Greyhounds build a 16-8 advantage. Assumption later rattled off six straight points to extend the lead to 22-12 before Bowbliss closed out the 25-17 set victory with a kill.
In the fourth, Assumption stayed within one at 10-9 following a Larkin kill and later cut the deficit to 14-12 on a Presswood ace. SNHU answered with a 7-0 run to pull away before taking the set, 25-15, and the match, 3-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kendall Larkin led the way offensively for the Greyhounds with 16 kills, while Lily Petrocelli (12) and Cate Wettstone (10) both had double-digit kills.
- McKenna Glenn had a game-high 17 digs against SNHU, while Brennah Abilheira-Cargill totaled ten.
- Grace Presswood had four service aces on the day.
- Assumption still leads the all-time series, 4-3 over Dominican. SNHU still holds on to a 27-24 lead over the Greyhounds.
