GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Assumption University volleyball team picked up their first win of the year as the Greyhounds swept SUNY Geneseo 3-0 Thursday evening inside Carl Schrader Gymnasium on SUNY Geneseo's campus.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption had to battle back in a tightly contested opening set after SUNY Geneseo jumped out to an 8-3 advantage. The Greyhounds responded with a 9-3 run, highlighted by kills from
Grace Presswood and
Cate Wettstone, to take a 12-11 lead. The teams continued to trade points down the stretch, finding themselves tied at 24-24 before
Kaitlyn Montgomery put Assumption back in front with a kill. A Geneseo attack error followed, giving the Greyhounds a 26-24 opening-set victory.
The Greyhounds carried the momentum into the second set, scoring the first three points behind a pair of kills from
Nora Sharkey and one from Presswood. Assumption later stretched its advantage to 19-11, with Presswood contributing a kill and an ace during a five-point run. Geneseo closed the gap late, but Wettstone finished off the frame with a kill to secure the 25-21 win and give Assumption a 2-0 advantage.
Assumption controlled the third set from the start, racing out to a 10-3 advantage. The Greyhounds led 16-11 before taking complete control behind Wettstone at the service line. Assumption scored the final nine points of the match, with Montgomery and
Allie Barton providing kills while Wettstone recorded three service aces during the closing run. The Greyhounds took the final set, 25-11, to complete the 3-0 sweep and earn their first win of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kaitlyn Montgomery led the way for Assumption with eight kills on ten attacks, while Cate Wettstone and Grace Presswood added seven kills apiece.
- Natalie Brojek had a game-high 13 assists and added 11 digs. Brooke Bowbliss (9) and MaKenna Glenn (6) added secondary help.
- Wettstone led the Greyhounds with six of the team's 11 aces, while Nora Sharkey and Wettstone had three assisted blocks.
- This was the first all-time meeting between the two teams.
