WORCESTER, Mass.– The Assumption University women's ice hockey team scored two unanswered goals to pick up a 2-1 win over Saint Michael's College in New England Women's Hockey Alliance action Friday afternoon at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption controlled the pace throughout the opening period, firing 20 shots on goal while holding Saint Michael's to just two. Despite the heavy pressure, the Purple Knights struck first at 11:59 when Grace Bendickson scored to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage. The Greyhounds continued to generate chances but entered the first intermission trailing by one.
The Greyhounds continued their offensive pressure in the second period, recording 27 shots on goal. Assumption finally broke through on the power play at 5:14, as
Annie Forker scored off assists from
Megan Tremblay and
Sydney Burnevik to tie the contest at 1-1. Assumption later killed off Saint Michael's lone power-play opportunity to keep the game even heading into the third.
The Greyhounds grabbed its first lead of the afternoon at 7:45 of the third period.
Alaina Whitesell found the back of the net off an assist from
Natalie Joiner, putting the Greyhounds ahead 2-1. The goal proved to be the game-winner as Assumption held Saint Michael's scoreless for the remainder of the contest, including after the Purple Knights pulled their goaltender late.

- Leila Fournier logged eight saves in the win.
- Assumption outshot Saint Michael's College 69-9, while also winning 32 of 51 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Purple Knights went scoreless on their only opportunity.
