MANCHESTER, NH -- The Assumption University volleyball team earned back-to-back wins as the Greyhounds defeated Southern New Hampshire University 3-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Stan Spirou Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption overcame an early deficit in the opening set after Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 9-3 advantage. The Greyhounds steadily chipped away, eventually tying the frame at 18-18 before taking their first lead at 19-18. With the score later tied at 24,
Lily Petrocelli put Assumption back in front with a kill before an SNHU attack error secured the 26-24 opening-set victory.
The Penmen again started quickly in the second set, building a 5-0 advantage, but Assumption battled back and pulled even at 11-11. The Greyhounds then used a 6-1 run, highlighted by a Petrocelli kill and an ace from
Lila Handrahan, to take a 17-13 lead. Assumption remained in control from there, with
Kaitlyn Montgomery recording kills on the final two points to close out a 25-18 win.
Assumption took control midway through the third set, using a 6-0 run behind the serving of
Natalie Brojek to turn an 8-8 tie into a 14-8 advantage. Southern New Hampshire battled back and eventually took a 25-24 lead, but the Greyhounds answered. A Petrocelli-Wettstone block tied the set before
Cate Wettstone delivered back-to-back kills to make it 27-26. Wettstone and
Nora Sharkey then combined for the match-ending block, giving Assumption a 28-26 victory and the straight-set sweep.
