WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Assumption University volleyball team fell in straight sets to Bentley University, 3-0, in non-conference action Tuesday evening in Andrew Laska Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption and Bentley traded points early in the opening set, with the Greyhounds pulling even at 10-10. The Falcons responded with a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead and later extended it to 18-12. Assumption pulled within four at 20-16 following a
Kaitlyn Montgomery kill and a
Natalie Brojek service ace, but Bentley closed out the frame, 25-18.
The Greyhounds battled back from an early 3-0 deficit in the second set and took their first lead at 9-8 on a
Cate Wettstone service ace. Wettstone followed with another ace before Montgomery extended the advantage to 12-9 with a kill. The teams went back and forth from there, producing ties at 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. After Bentley moved ahead 24-22, back-to-back kills from Lilyanna Petrocelli helped Assumption take a 25-24 lead. The Greyhounds later went back in front 26-25 on a
Nora Sharkey block, but Bentley scored the final three points to win 28-26.
Assumption erased another early deficit in the third set, using a 5-1 stretch to turn a 7-3 Bentley lead into an 8-8 tie. The Greyhounds stayed within striking distance at 12-11 after a Montgomery kill, but the Falcons answered with six consecutive points to build an 18-11 lead. Assumption made a late push, pulling within 22-17 behind consecutive kills from
Grace Presswood and a Montgomery block, but Bentley closed out the match with a 25-18 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kaitlyn Montgomery led the Greyhounds with nine kills and a game-high four blocks.
- Natalie Brojek paced Assumption with 12 assists, while Brooke Bowbliss added nine.
- Grace Presswood had a game and season-high 20 digs, while Lila Handrahan had six.
- Assumption had 11.0 blocks in the contest, with Montgomery leading the way with four, but Cate Wettstone had 3.5, with two solo.
- The Greyhounds' 11.0 blocks as a team are the most by a Bentley opponent since Point Loma had 11 against the Falcons on Sept. 12, 2025.
- Bentley now leads the all-time series 48-5
