WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's soccer team fell in a tightly contested, rain-soaked game at Normand R. Marois '57 Field. Adelphi University came out on top in the 1-0 Northeast 10 Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption generated the first scoring opportunity of the contest, as
Elizabeth Schoeneberger put a shot on goal in the seventh minute before
Rachael Geniuch forced another save at 23:25. Adelphi increased its pressure later in the half, but
Kaylin Hebert turned aside Kayleigh Goodrich's attempt in the 39th minute to keep the game scoreless. The Greyhounds earned a corner in the final two minutes of the period, but the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
Adelphi broke the deadlock at 51:11 when Kayleigh Goodrich scored her ninth goal of the season to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. Assumption immediately looked for the equalizer, with Geniuch's attempt blocked just 16 seconds after the goal.
The Greyhounds continued to push forward and nearly tied the contest in the 68th minute when
Lilina Shiers struck the crossbar. Shiers put another attempt on target at 72:13 before
Abigail Greable forced a save three minutes later. Assumption continued to generate opportunities down the stretch but could not find the tying goal, as Adelphi held on for the 1-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Kaylin Hebert recorded eight saves in goal for the Greyhounds.
- Adelphi outshot Assumption 19-16, while the shots-on-goal totals were 9-4.
- The Panthers had six of the ten corners.
