WEST CHESTER, Pa.– The Assumption University field hockey team scored first, but the Greyhounds would fall to No. 5 West Chester University 4-1 in a battle of two top-ten teams Friday evening at Vonnie Gros Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption opened the scoring late in the first quarter, as
Marta Brzoska finished a feed from
Elly Schofer at the far post with 2:14 remaining to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
Daisy Stone and Sarah DeFusco also put early shots on goal, while
Carolyn Durand made three saves in the opening period to keep West Chester off the board.
West Chester tied the game on a penalty corner at 25:23 before adding another goal as time expired in the second quarter to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime. Brzoska nearly added her second goal earlier in the period, but her shot was turned away.
Assumption generated sustained pressure in the third quarter, earning four penalty corners and six shots.
Nova Rijks,
Mieke Rentsch, Caroline Mastergeorg and Stone all put attempts on goal, but West Chester extended its lead to 3-1 early in the period.
The Greyhounds continued to battle in the fourth, with
Racquel Provost recording a defensive save and Durand stopping a penalty stroke at 51:39. West Chester added its final goal off a penalty corner at 56:06 before Brzoska produced Assumption's final chance in the closing seconds, as the Golden Rams secured the 4-1 decision.
