Marlborough, Mass. (November 4) -- The Ice Dogs lost to Suffolk University, 3-1, in the first round of the Ice Breaker Tournament on Friday afternoon at the New England Sport Center. The game was a penalty-marred affair as the two teams were each whistled for 10 penalties each.
The Ice Dogs jumped out to a one-goal lead when Taylor Larsen (Blackstone, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored his second goal of the season, off a pass by Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), in the second period. The goal came just as an Assumption power play was expiring.
Suffolk scored three unanswered goals in the final period for the final margin. Jon Stauffer, Ryan DesRoches and Andrew Flynn each tallied their first goals of the season for the Rams.
Nick Blanchette (Stuart, Fla./Worcester Academy) made 32 saves in the loss, while Cam Kelley made 19 in the victory.
The Ice Dogs fall to 0-3 on the season, while Suffolk moves to 1-0.
Assumption will play in the consolation game of the Ice Breaker Tournament on Saturday afternoon, taking on Stonehill beginning at 2:30 p.m.
