Box Score Orangeburg, N.Y. (Sept. 2) -- In its first game of the season Assumption finished well, scoring three second-half goals by three different players on the way to a 4-1 victory over Caldwell.
The Hounds took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal by junior midfielder Nicole Savi (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) with less than two minutes to play before the half. Sophomore forward Justine DiDonato (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) assisted the goal.
Caldwell knotted the score at one in the 59th minute on a goal by Rebecca Nadeau.
Assumption regained the lead in the 71st minute when Savi found the back of the net for a second time on an unassisted goal and the Hounds didn't relinquish the lead from there.
Sophomore Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I./East Providence) got into the scoring action with a goal in the 82nd minute, assisted by junior midfielder Molly Kessler (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton).
Sophomore transfer Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) made her presence felt in her first game with the final goal for the Hounds in the 86th minute, extending the lead to three. Andrea Bates (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) set up the score.
Assumption goalkeeper Allison Bruder (Sandy, Utah/Juan Diego Catholic) made three saves in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) replaced Bruder at the start of the second half and saved three shots while allowing one goal.
"I felt like we came down here ready to play," head coach Glenn Melia (Air Force '89) said. "We came out with intensity. I'm very happy with the result, but we also learned some things we need to work on from this game."
The Hounds moved to 1-0 on the season and will face Nyack at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
