Setters Pull Away in Third Quarter in 16-5 Defeat

Pleasantville, N.Y. (March 27) -- Trailing by a 4-3 margin at halftime, the Assumption men's lacrosse team was outscored by a 7-0 margin in the third quarter as Pace pulled away for a 16-5 victory over the Hounds on Tuesday afternoon at Pace Field in Northeast-10 Conference action.

Freshman Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./Minoa) posted a hat trick to lead the offense and keep the Hounds within a one-goal margin at the halftime break. Pace took advantage of seven Assumption penalties in the third quarter to take an 11-3 lead after three quarters, en route to the 11-goal victory.

Smith led the Hounds with three goals, along with single goals from senior Tim Roy (Avon,  Conn./Avon) and sophomore Ian Mack (Avon, Conn./Avon). Eight different players scored for Pace, led by five goals from John Kolesar.

Sophomore goalie Matt Palubicki (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) made 12 saves for the Hounds in the defeat.

Assumption falls to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in Northeast-10 play, while the Setters improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Hounds return to action next, taking on Franklin Pierce in Rindge, N.H. on Saturday, March 31st.
