Hounds Fall on the Road at Bentley in 10-5 Final

Box Score

Waltham, Mass. (April 10) -- On Tuesday night, the Assumption men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-5 final to Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference play. Bentley has now won five straight in the all-time series dating back to 2007, along with the Falcons holding a 19-1 margin in the all-time series with the Hounds.

Bentley jumped on the board just 20 seconds into the game as J.D. Ayer found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Richard Travers added to the lead before the Hounds scored with just one second left in the opening quarter to make it a 2-1 margin after one period. Scoring the goal was freshman Peter Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), his fourth of the season, with the assist coming from junior Casey Marren (Derby, Conn./Notre Dame).

In the third, a quick 3-0 Bentley scoring run, including a man-up goal by Ayer to open the period, pushed the advantage to 5-1 in favor of the Falcons. Assumption found the back of the net twice though to end the half as the Hounds trailed by a 5-3 margin heading into the halftime break. In a span of just 14 seconds, Tom Guido (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) tallied a man-up goal, followed by a score from freshman Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), to account for the halftime score.

In the third, the teams nearly played a scoreless period before Ayer wrapped up the hat trick with an unassisted goal with two seconds left to increase the Bentley lead to 6-3 after three periods.

Bentley led by as many as five goals at 8-3 midway thru the fourth before the Hounds cut into the lead. Guido scored his second of the game at the 7:42 mark, along with a score just 44 seconds later from senior Tim Roy (Avon, Conn./Avon) to cut the margin down to 8-5 with 6:58 left. Hinds added his second goal of the half for the Falcons, along with another goal from Travers with 1:06 left, to account for the 10-5 final score.

Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) made 13 saves for Assumption in the loss, while Brian Karl turned aside eight shots to pick up the victory for Bentley.

With the loss, Assumption falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in Northeast-10 play, while the Falcons improve to 2-5 on the season and 2-2 in the league.

Assumption is now idle for eight days before hosting Adelphi University on April 18th for a 7 p.m. start at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
