Worcester, Mass. (April 18) -- On Wednesday afternoon, the Assumption men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-4 final to visiting No. 5 ranked Adelphi University in Northeast-10 men's lacrosse action at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter before freshman Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) opened the second quarter with his 23rd goal of the season. Adelphi pushed the lead to 10-1 early in the third before Gordon Champlin (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) ended the run midway thru the third quarter.

Adelphi led by as much as a 16-3 margin before Smith closed out the scoring with just 20 seconds left in the game for the 16-4 final.

Freshman Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) made 10 saves in the defeat to fall to 0-3 on the season.

With the loss, the Hounds fall to 2-9 overall and 1-6 in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi sits at 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the league. Assumption is back in action on Saturday, April 21st as the Hounds travel to Syracuse to take on No. 2 ranked Le Moyne College.
