Worcester, Mass. (September 15) -- With the game seemingly heading to overtime, UMass Lowell's Kevin Zapata scored with just seven seconds remaining in the second half to lift the River Hawks to a 4-3 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Homero Morais got the visitors on the board just 8:52 in as he tallied an unassisted goal for his second goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. Assumption answered eight minutes later as senior Dom Mondi (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) scored on a left-footed shot into the upper left corner to tie the game. With just 3:38 left in the opening and with Assumption holding the momentum, sophomore Troy Lamagna (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) scored off a rebound to send the game into the half at 2-1.

In the second half, the River Hawks struck twice early in a span of just 46 seconds to tie the game up at 3-3. Bruno Bonicontro tallied the first of the two goals at the 53:42 mark for his third goal of the season, followed by the second goal of the game by Morais. Assumption wasn't done though as Mondi notched his second of the game and third of the season 1:19 later to tie the game for the third and final time.

That set up the last-second heroics for the River Hawks as they gained possession with just under 20 seconds on the clock. With the game counting to zero, Zapata came down the right side and scored his first goal of the season to end a game in which the River Hawks held a 14-9 edge in shots over Assumption.

Freshman Dana King (Windham, Maine/Windham) made five saves for the Hounds in the loss, while junior Christopher Maierle did not make a save for UMass Lowell.

The Hounds fall to 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Northeast-10 with the loss, while UMass Lowell, ranked sixth in the NSCAA East Region Poll, remains unbeaten at 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, September 19th as Le Moyne visits the Multi-Sport Stadium for a 3:30 p.m.
