Greyhounds Fall to American Int'l in Northeast-10 Championship Quarterfinal

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. (November 5) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 final to the No. 8 ranked Yellow Jackets of American International College at Abdow Field in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Tuesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds finish the season with a 7-5-5 record and finished the season at 5-4-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the second-seeded Yellow Jackets improve to 15-1-2 overall and are 11-1-2 in league play.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Kevin Meek, Assumption made the Northeast-10 Conference Championship for the first time since 2005 and had a league record that was better than .500 for the first time since 2009.

The Greyhounds got the first shot attempt as senior Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, R.I. / Toll Gate) chipped a ball to the left side of the net from about 15 yards out.

The Yellow Jackets jumped ahead in the 21st minute as Ophelie Brevet scored her first goal of the season. Sonia Basma added her 16th goal of the season less than a minute later to extend the AIC lead to two, 2-0.

Junior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) made a pair of impressive saves over the next six minutes to keep the score within two in the first half.

With just under five minutes remaining the Greyhounds had a significant scoring chance as Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham) broke through the Yellow Jacket backline, but was called offside, nullifying the attempt.

The Greyhounds jumped out of the gate in the second half with a scoring chance as Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake) put a shot on to the right side of the net with her left foot, but the scoring chance was snuffed out.

The Yellow Jackets extended the lead to three after Romina Bell converted a penalty kick for her first goal of the season. Mariah Shade and Alyssa Werbicki also scored second-half goals on the way to the 5-0 final.

Edgin made five saves in the loss for the Greyhounds while Samantha Tabak made four saves for the Yellow Jackets.
