Worcester, Mass. (September 14) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie against Franklin Pierce University in the Northeast-10 Conference season opener for both squads. The tie marked the first in the all-time series between the two teams.

The Greyhounds withstood a Raven attack in the final seconds of the second overtime, with Jaclyn Tomasello (Halifax, Mass. / Silver Lake) making a game-saving team save with less than five seconds to play to preserve the tie.

Senior Andrea Bates (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett) scored the lone goal for the Greyhounds, taking a pass from freshman Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham), and finishing to give Assumption a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Coming out of halftime, the Ravens struck with a quick goal in the 48th minute to tie the game at one. The teams played scoreless soccer for the remainder of regulation and overtime.  Assumption put pressure on the Raven backline throughout the end of the second half and both overtimes, recording multiple chances, with each coming up just short of giving the Greyhounds the game-winning marker.

Assumption took 10 corner kicks, while the Ravens attempted just two. Each team put six shots on net, while Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) made four saves for the Greyhounds and Katie Weldon made five saves for the Ravens.

The Greyhounds move to 2-0-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the Ravens are now 1-1-1 and 0-0-1 in league play.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, September 21st as Assumption will travel to Saint Michael's College to take on the Purple Knights. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
